Line Boring & Welding: Save Your Gear, Don’t Replace It
We recently heard about a bloke who sold his old excavator because the pins and bushes on the digger arm were worn out and loose. What he didn’t know? A quick line boring and welding repair could’ve fixed it — no need to shell out for a brand-new machine.
It’s understandable to think that once the pivot points or bucket pins start to wobble, the machine’s done for. But the truth is, it’s just worn metal — and we can fix that.
So, What is Line Boring?
Line boring is a machining process that repairs worn pin and bush holes. We bring in a portable line boring machine, weld the hole back up to size, and then re-machine it back to exact spec. You’ll end up with tight, clean alignment just like it came from the factory.
It’s especially handy when:
Loader arms and pivot points are loose or flogged out
Excavator buckets have too much play
Linkage arms are misaligned
Pin holes are oval-shaped or cracked
And when you combine it with welding, we can build up damaged areas, strengthen worn components, and give your gear years of extra life.
Who Should Be Thinking About Line Boring?
If you’re running tractors, diggers, dozers, loaders, or anything that swings or pivots on pins — you should be! Line boring is perfect for:
Farmers dealing with worn linkage points, implements, and gate gear
Earthworks operators with worn bucket ears, chassis cracks, and pin holes
Forestry and transport crews keeping heavy machinery aligned and safe
Don’t Spend heaps Replacing What Can Be Repaired
Machinery is too expensive to replace over something as simple as loose pins. A proper weld and bore can give your machine years of extra service — and save you heaps.
At Wilatt, we can come to you (or you drop your gear to our Bombay, South Auckland workshop), we get the job done, and make sure your gear is solid, safe, and working like it should.
